THE CHRISTMAS ROSE

The Christmas Rose is a radiantly beautiful story of two children, Miriam and Reuben, who secretly accompany their father and others to visit the newborn Christ Child. After an adventurous journey they realize they have no gift for the newborn. Miriam begins to cry, and her tears cause roses to bloom, which they offer as a gift. This charming, 60-minute opera by Frank Bridge is a heart-warming family event to add to your holiday celebrations. A community orchestra accompanies some of the Twin Cities’ finest talent for this evocative performance.
SIP OF OPERA: LA POÈTE FÉMININE

La Poète Féminine celebrates the artistic voices of women through poetry and music in a program of French art songs by female composers and poets. Skylark’s 3rd Annual Sip of Opera celebrates Women’s History Month with Twin Cities native sommelier Erin Rolek guiding us through this female-centered program of music and poetry, paired with wine. Join us for a magnifique evening of rarely heard gems!
SUNDAYS AT LANDMARK: BLACK ON BROADWAY

Skylark presents a chronological journey of Black artists’ contributions to the American musical theater canon. Starting with the origins of Black vaudeville performances continuing through contemporary works, Black lyricists, composers, and performers have been shaping American musical theater. Skylark celebrates the music of Black Artists on Broadway to highlight these significant contributions through the compositions of Eubie Blake, Margaret Bonds, Lorraine Hainsberry, Michael R. Jackson, and many more. Over the course of 75 minutes, four soloists will perform solo and ensemble musical selections that chronicle the history of Broadway’s Black creators.
BLACK MUSIC APPRECIATION MONTH/JUNETEENTH CONCERT

Skylark celebrates Black Music Appreciation Month with a program of music by American composer H.T. Burleigh partnered with arias of from Guiseppe Verdi’s Otello. Burleigh was a pioneering black composer who elevated spirituals through his innovative arrangements in classical form. His prolific song output is known for its memorable tunes and emotional climaxes. Skylark combines these with the powerful story and music of Otello, sung by Black tenor Roland Hawkins. The program will be presented with food and beverages from some of the Twin Cities award-winning black business owners.
SUMMER 2026: EDGES
Coming August 2026
Edges presents a charming, witty and honest examination of adulthood as four young adults explore what happens when we are teetering on the edges of our lives. The music covers issues such as love, commitment, and identity. Characters deal with confronting emotions, escaping expectations and deciphering complicated relationships. Skylark is proud to present the Minnesota premiere of Pasek and Paul’s (Dear Evan Hansen, The Greatest Showman, and La La Land) first theatrical work.
