Announcing Marry Me a Little Cast and Artistic Team, tickets on sale

Stephen Sondheim’s Marry Me a Little opens June 20th, with four additional performances June 21-23rd, at The Crane Theater in northeast Minneapolis. Soprano Bergen Baker and baritone Max Wojtanowicz (Skylark debut) portray two single people alone on a Saturday night, longing for the soulmate of their dreams. This poignant revue will captivate both Sondheim aficionados and novices ("a charming and intimate little gem....you don't have to know anything about Sondheim ...to fall into the story..."--SFGate). The production is under the stage direction of Nikki Swoboda (Skylark debut), with music direction by Artistic Director James Barnett. Tickets now available at skylark.booktix.com.

Skylark for Seniors fosters mental health and well-being through music

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a perfect time to recognize the amazing benefits that opera and music theater bring. Our audiences, donors and sponsors know that music is more than entertainment—music heals, uplifts, and brings shared emotional experiences that connect us. What Skylark knows, confirmed by research studies, is that people who participate in music activities reap benefits in all areas of their lives.

Our Skylark for Seniors program is a perfect example of the sheer joy that an afternoon of opera and Broadway musical selections can bring to seniors who might otherwise not be able to attend a live-stage performance. These heartwarming, hour-long performances are made possible through the generous support of donors and sponsors.

“The audience in their wheelchairs, many with oxygen tanks, some accompanied by their children and pets, absolutely captured my heart. Many of them closed their eyes as they listened, some of them sang along--all lost for an hour from their aches and pain and the issues that we all face. We made them happy.”

See for yourself how your contributions bring the healing power of music to seniors throughout the Twin Cities area. Your ongoing support makes this program possible. You can donate here.

Women of Broadway wows 'em at Landmark

Our thanks to everyone who attended Skylark’s free public performance of Women of Broadway at the Landmark Center on April 14th showcasing songs written by, composed by, or sung by women singer/songwriters. The superb quartet of singers, Siena Forest (soprano), Anna Hashizume and Jill Morgan (mezzo-sopranos) and Joshua Eidem (baritone) were accompanied by Skylark’s Artistic Director, James Barnett, on the piano. It was an amazing afternoon of Broadway songs, from Ziegfeld Follies to Alicia Keyes, that delighted the audience and played to a standing ovation. Here's a taste of Some Other Time from Bernstein's On the Town for those who missed it, or just want to hear it again. Thanks to Landmark Center for hosting us.
