Happenings at Skylark Opera Theatre July 2026
Your Generosity Shows that Opera Still Matters
Heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to the mid-year fundraising campaign. Your generous support keeps Skylark’s opera and music theater experiences on stage, at neighborhood venues, and at senior residences throughout the Twin Cities metropolitan area and beyond.
Your support says it loud and clear: opera and music theater matter; highlighting Minnesota-based vocal talent and musicians matters; and reaching out to old and new audiences matters! We are passionate about presenting opera and musical theater in intimate, neighborhood venues where you are up close to the action. Your generosity keeps the music playing! We deeply appreciate all contributions.
Announcing a New Series of Skylark Opera Events!
Presenting Skylark Gatherings: celebrating the best of Minnesota's four seasons, thanks to generous support from grants, donors and sponsors. What's a Skylark Gathering? It's an intimate evening of shared music and food with friends and other music-lovers. First up in October 2026 is a Harvest Gathering, celebrating the warmth of a Minnesota fall—think of cider, apple and spiced desserts, glorious fall colors and fellowship. Of course, opera and musical theater selections will perfectly complement the spirit of the season!
In February 2027, our fourth annual Sip of Opera will present an elegant evening of wines, appetizers, desserts, and music. Past attendees have commented "truly superb...no one should miss this." Greeting old friends and meeting new ones while enjoying exceptional vocal talent and an outstanding selection of wines and appetizers is a special way to experience opera.
Our free annual Sundays at Landmark concert at St. Paul's historic Landmark Center will follow Sip of Opera in April 2027. This event welcomes spring with glorious singing and a spring-themed reception. We’ll close out the four seasons with a Skylark Gathering celebrating Minnesota's beautiful summer.
We can't wait to welcome you to this new series, whether you’re a longtime fan, a casual listener, or just opera curious. Skylark Gatherings are your invitation to great conversation, warm company, and the shared beauty of opera.
Welcoming Wesley Frye as Creative Lead for Skylark Gatherings
Skylark Opera is thrilled to welcome Wesley Frye as Creative Lead for Skylark Gatherings. Multi-talented Wesley is an in-demand music director, collaborative pianist, singer, and vocal coach. (Who could forget his joyous Skylark Opera performances as befuddled but lovable King Kaspar in Amahl and the Night Visitors in 2021 and 2022?) He has shared his amazing musical talents with numerous Minnesota organizations, including Chanhassen Dinner Theatres, Theater Latté Da, History Theatre, Park Square Theatre, and the University of Minnesota, and with companies nationwide such as Chelsea Opera and Opera Naples.
A Generous Metropolitan Regional Arts Council Grant Supports Skylark for Seniors Fall Series
Skylark singers will continue entertaining audiences at senior residences in the Twin Cities metro area this fall, thanks to a $14,000 grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council. Jennifer Eckes will return as Creative Lead for the series. These engaging, hour-long performances are thoughtfully designed to delight and spark memories for seniors through song and expressive storytelling, right in their own homes.
Baritone Tony Potts pours it on at a May 2026 Skylark for Seniors performance
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
