OktOpera Fest celebrates Johann Strauss, Jr.'s 200th birthday!

How popular is Johann Strauss, Jr.? So popular that, in spite of their zeal to suppress all achievements by Jews, the Nazis altered parish records to conceal his Jewish ancestor and even celebrated his music as a shining example of German culture. Come hear music the Nazis didn't dare ban at the 4th annual OktOpera Fest, Thursday, Oct 9 at 6:30 pm at Fat Pants Brewing Co. 8335 Crystal View Road, Eden Prairie. Celebrate Strauss's 200th birthday, raise a glass and savor sparkling music from the Waltz King, sung by soprano Julia Engel and tenor David Walton. Pianists James Barnett and Mary Jo Gothmann accompany them and show off their own virtuoso flair. Enjoy your first drink free (beer, wine, or NA), Oktoberfest eats from the food truck, and free parking just off Hwy 494 in Eden Prairie. Get tickets below or come to the door—gather your friends and join the party!

A Holiday Charmer Coming December 19-21

Skylark’s annual tradition of family-friendly holiday productions continues with the local premiere of Frank Bridge's exquisite opera The Christmas Rose ("an innocent story....turned into magic by Bridge's music", Gramophone). On-stage performers accompanied by an instrumental ensemble and choir tell of the shepherds making their way to Bethlehem—and two curious children, Miriam and Reuben, secretly following their father, hoping to glimpse the newborn child. Gather the whole family and add wonder to your holiday season with this beautiful opera. Stay tuned to Skylark's monthly newsletter, website and social media for more information and ticket availability.
