Happenings at Skylark Opera Theatre April 2026

FREE Black on Broadway Concert on April 19th

Celebrate the brilliance of Black artistry in American Broadway at a FREE concert on Sunday, April 19 at 1pm, featuring the vocal talents of Sumaya Roble, soprano, and Darius Gillard, tenor, accompanied by James Barnett on the piano. Black on Broadway celebrates the cultural impact of Black composers and creators who helped shape Broadway’s sound. From the ragtime energy of Eubie Blake’s Shuffle Along to the powerful Tropics After Dark by Margaret Bonds and Langston Hughes, the dramatic influence of Lorraine Hansberry in Raisin (based on her play A Raisin in the Sun), and the contemporary voice of Michael R. Jackson’s A Strange Loop, this concert blends history, storytelling, and unforgettable vocals in the stunning Musser Cortile at the Landmark Center in St. Paul.

This joyous afternoon is perfect for all music lovers, theater fans, and anyone seeking an inspiring Sunday experience. Invite your friends, or come solo, and join us for music that celebrates legacy, innovation, and the enduring power of American musical theater.
